Airmen's Bar

Stepping inside the Airmen's Bar is like taking a trip back to the 1940's - a time where the world was at war and life was lived for each moment.

The bar takes its name from the 487th Bombardment Group of the 8th US Army Air Force, ‘The Mighty Eighth’. The 487th flew 185 missions and more than 6,000 sorties whilst stationed at Lavenham during the Second World War.

Servicemen from the 487 and beyond would come to relax, drink and socialise. An inspiring collection of signatures and mementos adorn the walls, turning the Airmen's Bar at The Swan at Lavenham Hotel & Spa into a living piece of history. Pull up a stool at our long bar and enjoy a drink surrounded by inspiring history.

Just like the hotel, the Airmen's Bar is full of history. From it's connection to the airmen of World War II, many of which were based at Lavenham Airfield, to the bricks of the floor originally being used by the Merchant Navy.

Take time to read the Boot Record or explore the many signatures from servicemen from the Army, United States Air Force and the Royal Air Force. Peruse over the collection of badges which were either placed here by those serving in World War II or later donated to extend our catalogue of history, there's plenty to see while you sit back and enjoy being surrounded by history. The Airmen's bar is open from midday until 11pm to visitors.
