Editorial Guidelines

Bury St Edmunds and Beyond is the official destination website for Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area. Our aim is to inspire visitors and provide accurate, useful information to help them make the most of their visit.

Whether you're planning a short break, a relaxing weekend away or visiting friends and family, we hope you'll find plenty of inspiration at burystedmundsandbeyond.co.uk.

Our funding destination partners are Bury St Edmunds Town Council, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, and The Angel Hotel.

How we decide what to include

Bury St Edmunds and Beyond is owned and managed by Our Bury St Edmunds BID.

The businesses featured on the website are either:

  • BID member businesses that are relevant to the visitor economy and tourism industry, or
  • Approved members of Bury St Edmunds and Beyond.

Membership of Bury St Edmunds and Beyond is completely free. However, membership is by approval and is not automatic. We assess all applications on a case-by-case basis to determine whether a business is appropriate for inclusion and whether it supports the brand and website's purpose as the area's official visitor destination website.

Likewise, while BID businesses that are relevant to tourism are normally included automatically, not every business is suitable for a visitor-focused destination website. Inclusion is an editorial decision made by Our Bury St Edmunds BID.

We do not currently offer paid advertising or paid listings.

Our articles

Throughout the website you'll find articles and guides such as Things to Do, Where to Eat and The Best Sunday Roasts.

These are editorial features created by our team to help visitors discover the very best of the area. The businesses and attractions included are selected on editorial merit and relevance to the article. Inclusion in one article does not guarantee inclusion in others, and we cannot feature every eligible business in every guide.

Our blog

Our blog is designed to inspire people to visit Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area.

We share interviews with local people, insider knowledge, seasonal inspiration, event highlights and ideas for making the most of a visit. Some articles spotlight individual businesses, while others focus on themes, itineraries, local history or exploring the wider Suffolk countryside.

Editorial decisions about blog content are made by our team with the interests of visitors in mind.

Our What’s On

Event organisers are welcome to submit events for inclusion on Bury St Edmunds and Beyond free of charge by emailing info@burystedmundsandbeyond.co.uk . All submissions are reviewed by our team and published at our discretion. We consider each event on a case-by-case basis to ensure it is relevant to visitors and supports the area's tourism and visitor economy. Submitting an event does not guarantee that it will be published, and we reserve the right to edit event information for clarity, consistency and style, or to decline listings that are not considered appropriate for the website. Please supply high-res landscape images with no text. We do not currently offer paid event listings.

How do I get my business on the website?

If you're interested in being featured, you can apply to become a member of Bury St Edmunds and Beyond.

Membership is free of charge, but applications are considered individually. Acceptance is based on whether the business aligns with the brand and website's purpose and contributes to the area's visitor economy.

Approved members benefit from a presence on the area's official visitor website, receive industry updates and take part in other membership opportunities where appropriate.
