Hawkswood Vineyard
Enjoy tours and tastings at this Bury St Edmunds vineyard and winery
About this Business
Irene and I retired to Thurston in 2018 in order to follow our dream of having a vineyard and making wine.
Just over 0.5 hectares of our garden is given over to 2,500 vines with four varieties; bacchus, pinot noir, solaris and rondo grapes.
We have a small winery on site, probably the smallest commercial winery in England, producing about 4000 bottles of red, white and rose each year.
The vineyard is set in the grounds of Thurston Place which was originally the home of Nathaniel Hodson who designed the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds and his expertise can be seen in the formal grounds that sit next to the vineyard.
The last three years have seen us win half a dozen national awards for our wine and we are delighted to welcome guests by prior appointment for a tour of the vineyard and winery and a tasting of our wines.
Vineyard Experience
We are delighted to welcome individual guests and small groups by prior appointment for tours of the vineyard and winery and a tasting of 4 or 5 of our wines.
Visits can be booked Monday to Saturday, 12pm and 2pm - all year round with Ruby flying during the visit at 2pm.
Irene and I, Ruby the hawk, and Nellie and Archie, our vineyard dogs, look forward to welcoming you to our unique Suffolk vineyard!
