About this event

Military historian Paul Hunt, an active member of the Royal British Legion, is returning to the Guildhall after his hugely successful talk in October 2024 to showcase some of his unique and rare collection of genuine World War Two artefacts. Paul will give a fascinating and interactive presentation, inviting the audience to examine the items and ask questions.

His talk will delve into the covert operations that shaped WWII, providing a unique look into secret organisations such as the Special Operations Executive (S.O.E), which, during WWII, carried out espionage, sabotage, and reconnaissance missions alongside local resistance groups armed with vital weapons and equipment.

Learn about the Special Air Service (S.A.S), formed in 1941 by Col. David Stirling, whose daring hit-and-run tactics in North Africa and Europe disrupted German operations and rescued Allied prisoners.

Explore their stories and view authentic artefacts, including the Mk 2 radio transmitter-receiver, explosive devices, and booby traps. Rarely seen S.A.S weapons, uniforms, and signed items will also be on display.

Paul says ‘I pride myself on having a collection of artefacts rarely seen outside museums, if at all. I feel it’s very important that this part of history is taught and never forgotten. We owe it to the men and women who gave so much for us.’

Our World War Two RAF Operations Room will also be open for you to explore on the day between 10am to 4pm. Admission to the Ops Room is free

Tickets are £10 per person.
