Heritage Open Days: WWII Operations Room Open Day

Part of Heritage Open Days!

About this event

Explore the top-secret WWII Operations Room…the only one in the country!

The Guildhall contains the only surviving WW2 Operations Room of the Royal Observer Corps – an unsung group of local heroes who were the ‘eyes and ears of the RAF’ during the Battle of Britain. Their story has been hidden behind a veil of secrecy for over 80 years, but now it’s all been declassified for you to explore. Discover the stories of the remarkable people who worked in the Ops Room, and the incredible events they were part of, at special free open days.

Guided mini-tours of the Guildhall are available during Open Days at 11am and 2pm. Tickets are £5 per person and can be purchased at the front desk on the day.

Additional events run alongside Guildhall Open Days, including talks, tours, 17th century reenactors, Piano Jam sessions, and exhibitions. For more information about events, please visit our website.
