About this event
This November, The Leaping Hare Restaurant at Wyken Vineyards, nestled in the Suffolk countryside near Bury St Edmunds, invites diners to its highly anticipated annual Thanksgiving Dinner.
Carla Carlisle, the fourth generation to operate Wyken Estate, founded The Leaping Hare over 26 years ago. Born in the Mississippi Delta, in America’s Deep South, each year she pays homage to her heritage with a Thanksgiving feast at The Leaping Hare Restaurant. On the 28th of November, the restaurant will serve a three-course Thanksgiving dinner that blends the finest Suffolk produce with ingredients with a distinctly Southern flair.
Each year, Carla Carlisle brings the time-honoured tradition of Thanksgiving to life, combining American culinary classics with the farm’s sustainable, closed-loop system. The centrepiece of this year’s dinner will be Heritage Turkeys, raised in a small Suffolk flock, pan-smoked over grape vine prunings from Wyken’s vineyards. These will be served with cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole, and a medley of vegetables from the restaurant’s kitchen garden. And for dessert, Southern Pumpkin Pie and Chocolate Pecan Pie, a nod to Carla's American upbringing, will be served with ice cream – “to cut the sweetness,” as she fondly notes.
Carla's dedication to sustainable farming is evident across the menu. The Wyken Estate operates a closed farming system, ensuring that all produce is sourced locally, minimising waste and environmental impact while supporting the region’s agricultural community.

About the Venue
Wyken Vineyards is a lively and creative community situated in beautiful Suffolk countryside. With a vineyard restaurant and country store that is situated in the middle of a 1,200 acre farm, in a converted Medieval barn.
With a focus on sustainability, much of the meat such as venison, hogget, pork and game are reared on the estate, and salads and vegetables are grown in the kitchen garden. Most of their electricity comes from our own solar panels, and all the heating is supplied by chip and firewood from rotational coppice from their ancient woodlands.
They were the first vineyard restaurant in the UK and produce award-winning wines served in their restaurant.
Their vision is to tell the story between Suffolk farm, English vineyard, garden and plate.
Wyken Vineyards has won multiple awards including Best Restaurant in Suffolk in 2016 and 2020.
They have held a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 22 years and for the past two years won a Michelin Green Initiative Award.
Their much loved, Suffolk destination offers something for everyone including: a restaurant, lifestyle shop selling our wines, sourdough pizza café, magnificent Royal Horticultural Society garden and weekly Farmer’s Market.
