About this event
After a successful event last year, we are excited to announce another movie season celebrating film and culture in our home of East Anglia!
Starting on 20th August and running through to 4th September, this is our most jam-packed season yet, with lots of different kinds of films to look out for. It's an eclectic showcase for East Anglia's stories, talent and spirit, and we are delighted to be joined by a number of special guests across the season.
Available to book now, we have:
The premiere of Lady (20th August) - starring Sian Clifford (Fleabag), this offbeat comedy was shot on location at Somerleyton Hall in Suffolk.
Two double bills on Saturday 22nd - Fire Over Shingle Street / We Fought Them In Guboats and The Deben Valley / Life on The Deben - a combination of documentary and short film presented by local filmmaker Tim Curtis.
Akenfield (23rd August) - the 1974 drama directed by Bury St Edmunds-born Peter Hall, and filmed near Wickham Market in Suffolk.
The premiere of Life Support (25th August) - a documentary following the experiences of volunteer medics in Gaza. This screening is in partnership with the Amnesty International Bury St Edmunds Group.
Psychological thriller Ex_Machina (29th August) - accompanied by a talk from University of Cambridge's Dr Tom McClelland, a lecturer in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science.
1960s folk horror Witchfinder General (30th August) - filmed across rural areas of Suffolk and Norfolk.
Downton Abbey: A New Era (30th August) - filmed at several locations in East Anglia. Tickets for this screening include an option for Afternoon Tea in No.4, at 2pm before the film.
Closing out the festival is the world premiere of Once Upon A Time in Suffolk. This collaborative project between local writers and filmmakers was indepenedently crowdfunded, and contains an anthology of nine short stories inspired by many of
Suffolk's mysterious folklore legends. The film's producers also join us for a Q&A screening.
Stay in tune, as there's more to be announced! The full list and details of screenings will be revealed in our special brochure coming soon.
