About this event

Just why did 'Dr Crippen' become one of the most iconic figures in the history of British crime? And might he really have been innocent all along?

Matthew Coniam, author of the book Mr Crippen, explains why this is one case where nothing is quite as it seems.

For decades the sinister wax effigy of Hawley Harvey Crippen, synonymous with murder, stood in Madame Tussaud’s Chamber of Horrors. Surviving their fire of 1925 only to be removed for ‘updating’ purposes in 2016, long outliving the man and his crime, but how confident are we today in the conviction and execution of this man for the murder of his wife in 1910?
