About this event
Could there be anything better than strolling through vibrant blooms of sunflowers, picking to your heart’s content? Or sitting by a sea of yellow with your loved ones, enjoying a summer’s picnic?
Well, you can do it at Rougham Sunflowers! Just east of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, the field is open once again this summer of 2025. Come and enjoy the wonderful display!
We are hoping to open the sunflower field around 1st August; we will know the exact date when we see how the flowers are growing.
The field usually stays open for 2-3 weeks; the closing date will be determined according to how the sunflower blooms are holding up.
The sunflowers are in the same field as last year, just off the A14, retaining the same simple rustic charm and offering plenty of photo opportunities, as well as the joy of time outside in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, with room for children to run and climb. We cut pathways through the sunflowers to make it easy for you to explore the area.
Food and Drink
Food and drink will be provided by Roots&Co, an outlet of Roots Café, the café located at Blackthorpe Barn, 2 minutes’ drive away.
Roots&Co will be serving coffees, teas, cold and iced drinks, sausage rolls, vegan rolls, crisps, loaded strawberries, traybake cakes, ice creams and other snacks.
Beer and Prosecco will also be available.
You are welcome to bring your own picnic with you too.

About the Venue
Blackthorpe Barn is an old medieval threshing barn, but these days the Barn and surrounding buildings are used for events including the festive Country Christmas shop, selling a wide range of Christmas decorations and gifts, and the Arts & Crafts fair at Christmas, as well as other events, the Roots Café, craft workshops and art exhibitions during the year. It is also used to host beautiful weddings during the summer months.
We are part of the Rougham Estate which grows sunflowers and pumpkins and runs events in the summer and autumn.See the events calendar for day-to-day information, or follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see what’s on.
The Blackthorpe Barn was built around 1550, probably by John Drury who had just acquired the Manor of Rougham through the dissolution of the Great Benedictine Abbey at Bury St Edmunds in 1539.
