About this event
Inspired by Charles Dickens, The Angel's most celebrated guest, this afternoon tea is a literary nod to timeless British treats.
A zingy "Oliver Twist" cocktail, "hot sausage and mustard", Betsy Trotwood's Battenberg - indulge your inner book-worm and delve into an elegant afternoon tea inspired by the life and work of The Angel's most famous former resident - Charles Dickens.
The Pickwick Afternoon Tea includes a selection of savouries, warm scones with homemade jam and clotted cream, and sweet treats, served in the relaxing ambience of our lounge.
Charles Dickens spent a lot of time at the Hotel, staying in what is now room 215, where he penned much of his Pickwick Papers. We look forward to celebrating his life and work through our new afternoon tea offering.
The Angel Hotel in Bury St Edmunds features many wonderful nods to the great Charles Dickens, who first stayed there in 1835. These include a commemorative blue plaque, quotes on mirrors, artwork, and copies of his books. The bar also offers signature Dickens-inspired cocktails!
