About this event
Rhythms in Colour - A seasonal stroll through West Suffolk Parks
A photographic exhibition by Geoff Price commissioned by West Suffolk Council
During 2022-23, photographer Geoff Price was commissioned by West Suffolk Council to take his camera to sample the charms of the green spaces on our doorstep; our public parks. When our lives were suddenly and forcibly shut down during 2020, these local, expansive vistas provided a lifeline: We discovered the delights of once again breathing fresh air; of embracing openness; of sensing freedom from the suffocating confinement.
These photographs - drawings with light - provide a unique perspective on our precious, natural areas as the seasons pulse through them with a comforting regularity.
When meandering through these spaces, we naturally find ourselves recalling lines from the artists and poets; maybe Wordsworth or Browning... It dawns on us that their inspirations could well have been written about these sights, right here, in our local domain: We are granted a taste of the wide-ranging experiences on offer in West Suffolk - from the more formalised, showy flowerbeds of Abbey Gardens to the all-embracing canopies of Giant Redwoods at Brandon, through to the wild and lovely meadows of West Stow.
It has been said of public parks: ‘Whoever thou art, be a free man; here, all is for the stranger, not only for the one who owns’. Uplifting to our senses, the pleasures of our local green spaces are here, in this exhibition, for all to see, providing a delightful retreat at any time of the year, whatever the season... Susan Corke
