About this event

‘’Ever since I was a girl, I felt words and texts did not quite express how I feel about life, nature, the earth or the divine. I also wanted to record my memories of people I love and value. I was not good at painting, so I decided to try my hand at marquetry. Marquetry allows me to create an intricate storytelling image of scenery, how I see women, my spiritual belief and capture the face of my loved ones. I use various types and colours of natural wood and barks from trees to bring to life how I feel so perfectly.

Marquetry involves substituting different parts of a design or image with coloured pieces of wood. Each piece is finely cut from various types and colours of natural wood inlaid together neatly to re-create an image, scenery or a shape. The woods or barks are from trees such as sour orange’s wood, jujube wood, berry wood, walnut wood and some others.’’

Opening hours:

Mondays to Saturdays - 9am-5pm and Sundays 10am-4pm

Occasionally, the art gallery is closed to the public. If you are travelling specifically to see an exhibition, please call the box office on 01284 758000 before your visit.

The Apex Gallery is situated on the first floor. Drinks bought from the café in the foyer can be taken upstairs, so feel free to relax on the sofas with a drink and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

The vast majority of works on display are for sale. For further information, please ask at the box office.
