High Demand for Town Tours
The tours this year will include greater reference to the Bury St Edmunds witch trials
Halloween signals the start of Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides' ghostly and macabre walks season but before they commence tonight (Friday 30 October), a record 550 bookings have been made.
The tours this year will include greater reference to the Bury St Edmunds witch trials and their relationship to the trials in Salem, Massachusetts. Moyse's Hall Museum and Salem Witch Museum have formed a partrnership to work together on joint projects and a new memorial to the victims will be unveiled this weekend at Moyse's Hall.
Marketing Officer, John Saunders said: “The number is unprecedented and shows how popular these tours have become – they are interesting and entertaining, costing only £10 per person. It means that people who have not booked will have to sign up quickly for February or March.”
John joined New York Times Bestselling Author Madeline Martin (whose recently releasded historical fiction book A Time of Witches is set in Bury St Edmunds in 1645) on the History Hive Five Podcast in the USA out this week to talk about the witch trials and the town's connection to Salem. You can listen to the podcast on Spotify now. Madeline booked a number of tours with the guides to ensure her book reflected the true history of the Bury St Edmunds witch trials.
The Guides have also announced the continuation of their food and drink tours, in partnership with Our Bury St Edmunds BID and town centre businesses, due to popular demand.
John explained: “We know that some people want to book these tours as Christmas presents.”
Details of 2027 tour dates can be found on the Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides website.
