Situated on Guildhall Street, a 3-minute walk from the Buttermarket, this beautifully preserved building dates back to 1279, and is the oldest continuously used civic building in Britain. It offers a choice of unique and beautiful spaces for hire and is perfect for weddings, private functions, corporate and community events of all sizes.
Spend a while in our beautiful walled or sensory garden areas – perfect for garden parties, or Welcome Drinks. The octagonal gazebo gives shelter from the sun (or rain!), the garden is colourful all year round and is an excellent backdrop for photographs that will remind you of your visit for many years.
The Guildhall is also home to the only surviving World War Two Royal Observer Corps Control Centre in the country. It also offers a choice of unique spaces to hire: Georgian Banqueting Hall, panelled Victorian Court Room, Tudor Kitchen, or the walled gardens (or even the Ops Room). There is also a professional kitchen which an outside caterer may use.
It’s equally suited to intimate elopement ceremonies through to full wedding days for up to 80 people for the ceremony and sit-down reception and 120 for the evening party. For elopement or small ceremonies, the Robing Room offers an intimate space for up to 12 guests. Whatever size wedding you choose, the elegance and uniqueness of this place will provide a stunning blank canvas for you to bring your wedding day dreams to life. If you are thinking of eloping, Guildhall volunteers would be delighted to act as witnesses to your wedding.
Meetings & Conferences
Whether you’re looking for a small meeting room for 20 people or a conference venue for 120, we have a number of corporate hire packages to suit your needs.
The Tudor kitchen is ideal for smaller meetings and can accommodate up to 35 people, with its own kitchenette for those much-needed tea and coffee breaks.
The Georgian-era Banqueting Hall or Panelled Court Room provides the perfect backdrop for larger corporate events. Each of these rooms accommodates up to 80 people and includes tables, chairs, use of tea points, and the option of hiring our in-house P.A system, projector, lectern, and flip chart.
Opening times: Office opening hours are Monday to Friday, 10am - 4pm. The venue is open to the public during scheduled events only, which will be advertised on our website.
