As Easter approaches, Bury St Edmunds and its surrounding areas are brimming with events and activities perfect for families and individuals alike. From enchanting egg hunts to delightful trails through historic estates, there's something for everyone to enjoy this spring season. Here are some of the top Easter events happening in and around Bury St Edmunds:
Easter Egg Hunt at Nowton Park

Spring is in bloom at Nowton Park, and it's the perfect setting for an adventure this Easter. On April 16th and 17th, from 10am to 4pm, families are invited to take part in Nowton’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Children can burn off some energy exploring the vast parkland, wander through the intricate maze, and search for hidden Easter eggs along the way. If you're lucky, you might even spot the Easter Bunny hopping here and there among the daffodils. Once the trail is complete, little ones can collect their well-earned chocolate treat.
The meeting point is at Nowton Park Café, with a 1km walk to the maze; a great way to spend time with the whole family in the great outdoors!
Easter Steam Up at Mid Suffolk Light Railway

If your family loves trains, then this Easter, take a journey to the past at the Mid Suffolk Light Railway! On 20 & 21 April from 10.30am to 4.30pm, visitors can enjoy a special Easter Steam Up!
The historic railway will be in full operation, offering steam train rides, open museum exhibits, a restoration shed, a charming tea room, and even a real ale bar for the adults. A highlight for younger visitors will be the Easter Bunny Hunt, where children can track down all the hidden bunnies across the site. This delightfully nostalgic event is not to be missed!
Easter Egg Hunt at Melford Hall

Every year the Easter experience at Melford Hall, with its infamous egg hunt, delights children of all ages. Taking place throughout the Easter weekend, big and little kids alike can set off on an adventure through the historic and beautiful grounds, seeking out hidden eggs as they explore the estate.
Following the trail and the clues, they’ll discover fascinating tidbits about the hall’s history while soaking up the fresh spring air. This family-friendly event is the perfect way to embrace the spirit of the season.
Easter Egg Hunt and Crafts at Ickworth

National Trust Ickworth in spring is a sight to behold! This Easter, make your way along the trail and find nature-inspired activities for the whole family. The trail takes place between 4 - 22 April, prices are £3.50 per trail which includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From* chocolate egg.
For families who love to get creative, you can also take part in a variety of hands-on craft activities, making seasonal decorations inspired by nature and the beauty of spring.
From painting to paper crafts, it’s an opportunity to express your creativity while enjoying a day out in the picturesque surroundings of Ickworth’s gardens. No booking is required for the crafts (normal admission fees apply – just turn up and let the fun begin!
Easter Paw-Ty at National Horse Racing Museum

Don’t let your pup miss out on the fun! Join the Easter Paw-Ty at the National Horse Racing Museum on 18 April. Running from 10am to 4pm, this fun-filled celebration is great for the whole family- even the four-legged kind.
The event includes a Fun Dog Show, exciting arena displays, creative activities for children, and an Easter Trail especially designed for both the human and canine family members.
Easter Egg-stravaganza at Lackford Lakes

On 7, 8 and 15 April from 10am-12.00pm, families can enjoy a fantastic Easter eggstravaganza at Lackford Lakes.
This self-led, 45 minute trail around the reserve will take you past guided activity stations which will test your nest building skills, allow you to learn more about eggs in nature and give you a chance to produce some egg-cellent Easter crafts. This is an Easter egg hunt with a difference! Tickets cost £8 for adults and £3 for children.
Easter Beer Festival at Nethergate Brewery

For a more grown-up Easter treat, head to Nethergate Brewery for their Easter Beer Festival, taking place from 19 to 21 April. While parents enjoy sampling a selection of craft beers, the whole family can take part in guided tours of the brewery, offering a fascinating insight into the brewing process.
With delicious food, live entertainment, and a relaxed Easter atmosphere, it’s a great way for families to enjoy the long weekend side by side.
Eastertide at Kenwell Hall

Eastertide at Kentwell Hall is a cherished annual celebration that brings history to life within the picturesque grounds of this Tudor estate in Long Melford. From 18 to 21 April, visitors can immerse themselves in a variety of family-friendly activities.
Engage with Kentwell's renowned living history experts as they recreate daily life from the year 1600, offering insights into historical cooking, baking, and crafts. Children can delight in the 'Eggheads Challenge,' featuring games like egg rolling, egg and spoon races, and an egg hunt throughout the gardens and woodlands.
The estate's farm showcases newborn lambs frolicking in the paddocks, embodying the spirit of spring. Additionally, the gardens are adorned with vibrant spring bulbs and massive drifts of daffodils, providing a scenic backdrop for a day of exploration and enjoyment.
