Where to Treat Mum: Best Afternoon Teas in Bury St Edmunds and Beyond
With Mother’s Day on the horizon, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time together. While there are lots of ways to mark the occasion, few feel quite as indulgent as settling in for afternoon tea and a good catch up. The best afternoon teas combine delicate sandwiches, sweet treats, warm scones with jam and cream, and a pot of tea. Or if the mood takes you, perhaps a glass of something sparkling but there are options below for all appetites and palates.
From elegant hotels and historic tearooms to relaxed cafés and countryside retreats, here are some lovely places in Bury St Edmunds and beyond where you can take your mum, grandmother, wife, daughter or the mother figure in your life who deserves a bit of spoiling.
The Angel Hotel, Bury St Edmunds
Traditional afternoon tea is served daily in the lounge at The Angel Hotel; a stately building in the heart of the town. Beginning with savouries, followed by warm scones with homemade jam and clotted cream, and finishing with delicate patisserie, afternoon teas change through the year, and from 1st March to 30th April the Easter Afternoon Tea brings in seasonal flavours, and playful twists on familiar favourites.
Once tea is over, Angel Hill and the Abbey Gardens are right outside, as well as the town where you can enjoy a browse through the local independent shops and boutiques.
