The popular outdoor theatre season returns for 2024 with a new programme of performances in the beautiful Abbey Gardens and West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village.

There's something for the whole family with outdoor performances of The Unusual Adventures of Robin Hood and The Secret Garden in The Abbey Gardens and The Tale of Jemima Puddleduck, Beowulf and Quentin Blake: Angelica Sprocket's Pockets in West Stow Country Park.

The Unusual Adventures of Robin Hood

Hobgoblin Theatre Company’s brilliantly original, outdoor production of 'The Unusual Adventures of Robin Hood' tells the classic tale of Robin and his Merry Men outwitting the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham with more than a little help from Maid Marian. But this time they are singing!
This musical show is full of audience interaction, physical comedy and truly touching moments.

The hilarious characters, fast-paced plotting and brilliant songs will have the audience singing all the way home. The outdoor setting instantly transports you to the world of Sherwood Forest. Suitable for the whole family - not to be missed this summer!

The performance will take place in Eastgate Nursery, next to the tennis courts.

Please bring chairs and blankets with you, pack a picnic and dress for the weather, it is the British summer after all!

The Secret Garden

Join Mary, Colin and Dickon as they tell you the story of their favourite place in the world - The Secret Garden.

A brand new re-imagining of the classic Frances Hodgson Burnett book brought to you by The Plandits.

Suitable for anyone aged 6+ who loves literature and the great outdoors, this heartfelt, energetic show is full of original music, puppetry, interaction and laughs.

As the three characters discover the transforming power of being active, the magic of nature and the joy of play, we’re sure you’ll leave this performance with a renewed enthusiasm for the world around you!

The Tale of Jemima Puddleduck

The Tales of Jemima Puddle Duck 965x540

Prevented from hatching her eggs at the farm, foolish Jemima goes in search of a nesting place in the forest and soon she meets a charming ‘gentleman’ who offers her the perfect nesting place in his wood-shed.
But why is his wood-shed full of feathers and why is he asking her to collect the herbs for roast duck?

Back at the farm, the Collie-dog, Kep, puts two and two together, but will he be in time to rescue Jemima from her fate?

The performance will take place in the Anglo-Saxon Village. Please note Theatre in the Parks tickets do not include a visit to the Anglo-Saxon Museum.

Beowulf

A family friendly adaptation of the legendary tale.

The Hall of Hrothgar is cursed. The monstrous Grendel comes to feast on those who sleep there and spread woe through the land of the Danes. Is there no one strong enough to lift the curse and kill Grendel? When the call goes out for a hero, young Beowulf is eager to answer.

One of the earliest and most famous examples of Anglo-Saxon poetry, the tale of Beowulf has enthralled readers for centuries. Utilising movement, poetry and puppetry, as well as action packed fight sequences, Quill & Inkling are excited to bring this great tale to life.

The performance will take place in the Anglo-Saxon Village. Please note “Theatre in the Parks” tickets do not include a visit to the Anglo Saxon Museum.

Don't miss the wonderful interpretive Beowulf and Grendel Adventure Trail at West Stow Country Park, which has been inspired by the ancient saga of Beowulf and Grendel and takes you on a journey through parts of the unique Breckland landscape including, heathland - where you will meet the sleeping dragon - woodlands and lake settings.

Quentin Blake: Angelica Sprocket's Pockets

Angelica Sprocket lives next door. Her overcoat has pockets galore! And you'll never guess what's in them...

Prepare to be surprised, thrilled and tickled pink by Angelica Sprocket's never-ending pockets, and the marvellous things she keeps in them.

Filled with Folksy’s touch of live music, puppetry, audience interaction and madness! This fun-filled show is the perfect treat for the whole family.
