Fabulous Conference and Meeting Venues for Your Business Event
Plan your next business events with our guide to venues in Bury St Edmunds and surrounding area!
The Athenaeum
The Athenaeum was built in the early 18th century as Assembly Rooms where the locals could gather to play cards, read books, attend parties and generally have a good time; not that different from its use today!
A Grade I listed building, it's main room is an ornate Georgian Ballroom, with chandeliered ceiling and grand décor, reminiscent of the days of Pride and Prejudice. Authors Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, The Rev Charles Kingsley (Westward Ho and The Water Babies) and W M Thackeray (Vanity Fair), gave readings here in the 1800s. The Athenaeum can be found on the town's historic Angel Hill, opposite St Edmundsbury Cathedral, the impressive, 12th century Norman Tower and the magnificent Abbey Gate.
There are five versatile spaces available to hire at The Athenaeum either individually or as a whole venue exclusively. Whether your event is a small meeting for 10 or a large scale conference for 250, they have rooms to suit. The inter-linked rooms also make it an ideal venue for exhibitions or networking. When using the venue exclusively there is space for up to 60 exhibitors allowing plenty of space for visitors to wander around or network.
Drinks Receptions are a speciality! The flexibility of the area means they can comfortably accommodate up to 250 guests in the Ballroom. They also offer standard AV equipment (data-projector and screen, flipchart, pens and delegate stationery) as part of their room hire charges. The AV equipment is all included within our range of delegate packages.
The Apex
The Apex is a contemporary and flexible event venue for between 10 and 600 delegates.
The high-tech Auditorium at The Apex offers some of the best facilities in the region, with sound and lighting options far outweighing its competitors. Its flexible layout means it can seat 530 delegates in a formal, tiered theatre, or 260 delegates in a cabaret configuration on the flat floor.
The first floor Lounge is a bright and airy space with an internal balcony overlooking the ground floor foyer, and an external balcony for those long, hot, summer evenings. It offers the perfect space for receptions, parties and exhibitions, and it regularly plays host to a variety of business networking events.
In addition, there are two studio rooms on the first floor for between 30 and 80 delegates which include all standard audio visual equipment plus technical support if required.

The Guildhall has a range of rooms available to hire for corporate events each reflecting a different era and use the building has served over the centuries.
Their spacious rooms and walled garden are ideal for business conferences, meetings, receptions and workshops.
The Angel
The Green Room at The Angel is the perfect place for a private dinner or meeting.
Let the chic interior spark fresh ideas and spur your imagination. Offering natural daylight, complimentary WIFI, Smart TV and air conditioning.
With seating for up to 16 guests, The Green room is a great space for your meeting or training course. The Angel offers both Room Hire packages and Day Delegate packages to suit all budgets and needs.
The Ickworth
There’s something stately about a business meeting in an 18th-century country house surrounded by park- and woodland.
This former home to the Earl of Bristol provides the ideal backdrop for your event or meeting, with spectacular views of the National Trust parkland in which the hotel is set.
All the rooms at The Ickworth are unique, from the impressive Chinese Room with its original hand-painted wallpaper, to the bright, wood-panelled Boardroom.
The Study is perfect for smaller meetings and holds up to six people and overlooks the Ickworth woodland.
The Chinese Room offers private dining for up to ten people. The 18th-century hand-painted wallpaper lends the room a grand atmosphere. Frederick’s overlooks the Italianate gardens and is perfect for meetings or business dinners of up to 18 people.
The stunning wood-panelled Boardroom overlooks the woodland and has a large vintage oak boardroom table. Anywhere from four to 22 people can sit together at the table, while the room can accommodate up to 35 when arranged theatre-style for a business presentation or seminar.
The Old Kitchen is open and versatile, holding 60 in a theatre setup or 26 as a boardroom. The Garden Room at The Lodge overlooks its own private gardens.
