Families are invited to celebrate Easter together at St Edmundsbury Cathedral through its Messy Church gathering on 31 March. The event combines storytelling, craft activities and a short time of worship as families explore the story of Holy Week and help create the Cathedral’s Easter Garden.

Children can take part in hands-on activities before everyone comes together for refreshments. It is also the perfect opportunity to step inside the cathedral itself and see the vast nave and high arches of this special building.

Families who love Julia Donaldson’s stories can see The Gruffalo’s Child brought to life on stage at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds from 27 - 29 March. Tall Stories’ stage adaptation follows the Gruffalo’s Child as she ventures into the deep dark wood on a wild and windy night, determined to discover whether the mysterious Big Bad Mouse really exists. Songs, storytelling and plenty of laughs keep younger audience members engaged, and the theatre itself is truly unique with its intimate Georgian auditorium and painted ceiling.

Dino Eggstravaganza at Arc Shopping Centre

arc Shopping Centre is hosting a prehistoric themed day of family fun with its Dino Eggstravaganza on the 1 April. Children can follow a dinosaur egg trail hidden in shop windows around the centre before returning their trail sheet to claim a dinosaur themed treat.

There is also a dig and win workshop where budding palaeontologists can excavate eggs for the chance to win prizes from Everyman Cinema, along with opportunities to meet a roaming dinosaur for photos.

Activities are free to join in with, although visitors are encouraged to donate to local charity Still Good Food.

Nowton Park’s Amazing Easter Egg Hunt

A short drive from the town centre, Nowton Park hosts its own Easter egg hunt among the park’s woodland paths and open green spaces. Children are invited to search high and low for hidden eggs before making their way through the maze to claim a chocolate treat. The Easter Bunny will also be roaming the park during the day.

The event begins at the Nowton Park Café, though visitors should note there is a one kilometre walk to reach the maze, so sturdy shoes are useful if the ground is muddy after spring showers.

Easter Egg Hunt at Ickworth Estate

The grand parkland at Ickworth Estate is a sprawling and pastoral setting for a family Easter trail which runs from 22 March to 12 April. Children follow a route through the grounds discovering nature inspired activities along the way before collecting their Easter prize at the end.

Each £3.50 trail includes a trail sheet, bunny ears and a chocolate egg, with dairy free and vegan options available. Once the trail is complete there’s plenty more to explore, with lots of open parkland for kids to run about in.

Easter Experience Forest School at West Stow

The woodland setting of West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village becomes the backdrop for a relaxed Easter themed forest school session on 2 April. Children are free to explore, play and follow their curiosity outdoors while taking part in seasonal activities throughout the morning.

At around 11am the Easter Bunny will arrive with treats and time for photos, and there is also the option to roast marshmallows over the campfire. Sessions run from 10am until midday and are designed for children aged 10 months to 10 years old.

There's also a fantastic outdoor play area - so bring a picnic and make a day of it!

Kentwell Hall hosts one of the region’s most established Easter events, filling its historic estate with family friendly activities from 3-6 April.

Children can take part in egg rolling, egg and spoon races and egg tossing, follow trails through the gardens and watch living history interpreters bring Tudor life to the estate’s historic buildings. Spring bulbs spread across the gardens at this time of year and newborn lambs can often be seen in the fields, with younger visitors usually making a beeline for the maze and the Yew Castle.
