Enjoy a meal out with the whole family at these family-friendly independent places to eat!
Whether you're staying in Bury St Edmunds & Beyond for a holiday or visiting for the day, there are plenty of family-friendly independent eateries to choose from serving a range of dishes that will suit all tastes and ages! We've picked a few of our favourite children's menus for you to try!
Amigos
Amigos
Amigos is a family-fun Mexican restaurant with a menu that will appeal to all ages! Don your sombrero and choose from authentic Mexican street tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chimichangas and salads.
The El Super Ninos (kids) menu boasts the DIY Taco, chicken or cheese quesadilla, chicken, steak or bean & cheese burrito, chicken or steak fajita, or kids burger with fries. The meal comes with a choice of drink and a scoop of ice cream to finish!
There are Mexican desserts on offer too, choose from caramel or chocolate filled churros and Mexican flan, plus chocolate brownie, ice cream and chocolate fudge cake.

Bay Tree Café is open seven days a week offering tasty treats and a changing menu including rice bowls, kedegree, Mac'n Cheese, Hash and loaded fries and many international dishes from the Head Chef's home of Canada.
The cafe in St John’s Street, was named as a 2024/25 Good Food Award winner with a Blue Ribbon. The awards recognise establishments across the UK who strive for excellence looking at food quality, service and value - with the prestigious Blue Ribbon being bestowed upon those with high customer ratings and votes from the public.
In 2025, Bay Tree Cafe was also named among the UK's best eateries by National Geographic Traveller. National Geographic Traveller shared a list of the top places across the country to eat kedgeree. Kedgeree is a dish made with cooked fish, boiled rice, hard-boiled eggs, butter and seasonings like curry powder.
Run by couple Alex and Lisa Rotherham, the café also made it to the regional finals in the annual Muddy Stilettos Awards in 2024 and also received the Tripadvisor Travelers Choice Award 2024.
They have a tasty children's menu including sandwiches, milkshakes, homemade chocolate milk and ice cream!
Damson & Wilde

In the heart of Bury St Edmunds, you'll find Damson & Wilde. With a beautiful interior and a stunning walled garden, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind whether it's for lunch or dinner with the family.
Damson & Wilde have a very different children's menu which matches the spirit of its main menu - well sourced seasonal ingredients, cooked simply, served with what you enjoy most.
There's caulflower cheese croquettes, homemade hummus, breadsticks, veggies, pea & mint arancini with garlic aioli, or chilli salt & pepper squid, with chilli mayo to start. Mains include flat iron steak, celeriac & mushroom skewer and chicken breast. There's also beef, fish and spiced chickpea & lentil burgers with ice cream, sticky toffee pudding or chocolate mousse pot to finish.
Edmundo Lounge

An informal and relaxed cafe bar, with a range of seating options to suit all sizes of family. Find a table or sofa at Edmundo Lounge and order from the extensive menu which serves everything from brunch and lunch, through to Tapas and dinner with great gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options.
The menu includes sandwiches, brunch, flatbreads, burgers, tacos, salads and bowls, and tapas.
Children can choose from baked beans on toast, sausages and chips, macaroni cheese, beef burger, breaded chicken strips, falafel burger. With puddings to finish including vanilla ice cream, fruit sundae and chocolate brownie. You can get a free juice box when ordering from the children's menu.
This family-friendly spot also offers colouring opportunities for their Little Loungers and regular craft events.

At Francela they pride ourselves on using only the freshest ingredients to create fantastic Mediterranean flavors and they welcome families ina relaxed informal atmosphere.
There is a tasty children's set menu which includes a main course, dessert and soft drink. Choose from finger kefte (lamb meatballs served with french fries), chicken nuggets, and fish fingers with ice cream for dessert!

Meat & Greet is a live fire BBQ steakhouse which offers burgers (including Meat Sweats, Flaming Hot and Hall of Flame), steaks from Dexter cattle which have been dry aged for at least 40 days and are cuts of sirloin, ribeye and fillet on the bone.
Their tasty appetizers include paprika corn ribs, halloumi fries, brisket sliders, garlic butter king prawns, BBQ honey chipotle chicken wings and chicken tenders. Sides include padron peppers with hot honey sauce, smoked mac n cheese, smoked carrots with hot honey sauce and Kansas barbecue pulled pork loaded fries with nacho cheese. If you'ce room for dessert there are some delious treats to choose from including cheesecakes and maple pecan pie.
They offer a children's menu which includes chicken tenders, halloumi and cheese burgers with ice cream for dessert!

Head Chef Matt’s adventures across Europe continue to inspire No4 Restaurant's menu — a celebration of sunshine, seasonal produce, and simple, flavour-packed food. They’ve focused on using the freshest local ingredients we can find.
They offer a variety of main dishes, specials and freshly made sandwiches, all designed to showcase the best produce this time of year has to offer. Their fish is fresh daily from the fishmonger and bread is made for them by a local baker. Check the specials board for daily specials.
No4 Restaurant has got little ones covered too, with their excellent value kids menu which includes a main, dessert and a drink. It includes a choice of burgers, ravioli, chick goujons, and poke bowls. The menu changes seasonally. They also have highchairs available and plenty of colouring sheets to keep them entertained while you relax.

The historic Angel Hotel, located in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, caters for all appetites including children.
Their new Little Angels menu includes macaroni cheese, fish and chips, sausages, mash and gravy, Little Angels Roast on Sundays and ham, egg and chips. There's fresh fruit salad, pancakes, knickerbocker glory and brownie sundae to choose from for dessert.
For an extra special treat, why not book the children's Pickwick Afternoon Tea! Delights include Butter Fingers - a selection of sandwiches, Buttermilk Scone and Victoria Sponge, Charles' Chocolate Cheesecake, and cold jelly and custard.

At ICE Restaurant, they serve food that’s bold, satisfying, and made with care, from breakfast through to dinner. Based just outside Bury St Edmunds, we’ve become a go-to for locals and visitors looking for great food in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
Their breakfast menu, served until 3pm daily, is packed with favourites. Whether you’re in the mood for a proper Full English, one of their signature sourdough specials, fluffy pancake stacks, or just a decent coffee and one of their famous crispy hash browns, there’s plenty to choose from. ICE Restaurant offer both vegan and gluten-free options across the board, so there’s something for everyone.
Throughout the day, their main menu offers a wide mix of dishes, ideal for anything from a light lunch to a full evening meal. You’ll find small plates like bao buns and chicken wings alongside larger mains such as fish and chips, nourishing buddha bowls, hand-stretched pizzas, and 21-day dry-aged steaks. The burgers are a particular highlight, served with a range of sides and house sauces.
For younger guests, their kids menu keeps things simple and tasty. With options like kids’ breakfasts including pancakes and their great value Kids Meal Deal (which includes a main, side, dessert and drink) including pizzas, mac n cheese, fish, sausage and egg, it’s an easy win for families.
Roots Cafe

Nestled in the heart of the Blackthorpe Barn complex on Rougham Estate, near Bury St Edmunds, and with a storied history spanning decades, Roots cafe is a convenient out-of-town chill-out spot to meet up, now open throughout the year.
For breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake, Roots has become a go-to destination. Everyone is welcome: families, walkers, cyclists, and dogs.
There is a section on the menu specifically for children which includes a children's fry up, sausage and chips, beans on toast, sandwiches and nutella waffles - a real favourite here.
Highchairs are available as well as a baby-changing unit.
